Statement: I want to participate in the $1,000 challenge to honor my mother, Sara Frances George Botner, who lost her courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease on December 27, 2007. As a quilt artist I feel the format of small quilts is especially appropriate for this situation since Alzheimer's victims lose themselves in small snippets, bits and pieces over time. I wish I could have put my mother's memory back together as easily as I can stitch together the pieces of a quilt. Perhaps with the funds raised by this effort a researcher somewhere will discover just how to do that. My grandmother was a quilter and my mother taught me to sew in 4-H when I was very young. Her attention to the details and joy in the process helped inspire me to work with fabric as an artist. With deep love and appreciation for all you mean to me, dearest Mother.
