Alzheimer's Illustrated: From Heartbreak to Hope
This is a curated exhibit of approximately 50 quilts selected from among donated
Priority: Alzheimer's Quilts received before June 1, 2010. Exhibit curator is Ami Simms, Founder and Executive Director of the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative.
The purpose of the exhibit is to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease and to fund research. The exhibit will tour throughout the United States for a period of five years (2011-2015). When it is retired all quilts from the exhibit will be sold or auctioned.
In addition to the
rules specified for Priority: Alzheimer's Quilts, please note the following requirements:
- Size: 9" x 12" Orientation: PORTRAIT ONLY, not landscape orientation.
- Original designs only, made by one person. No collaborations.
- "Alzheimer's themed." Specifically we are seeking quilts that portray all aspects of the disease, from all perspectives.
- The curator may contact quiltmakers and suggest quilt ideas or ask them to create new or modify existing work. This, however, is no guarantee that the resulting quilts will be included in the exhibit.
- Quilts will be stacked one on to of the other during shipping/storage. Quilts with potential to damage other quilts (thick or sharp embellishments, for example) will not be considered.
- Inclusion in the exhibit will be determined by visual impact, relevance to theme, structural integrity, suitability as part of a cohesive visual statement, conformity to eligibility requirements, field of entrants, and space.
- Curator may rename quilt and will work with quiltmakers to modify artist statements to create statements appropriate for the work in the context of the entire exhibit which will educate the public about Alzheimer's.
- The curator reserves the right to withdraw any quilt from exhibition at any time.
