Statement: I'm making this pledge in memory of my mother, Nell Miller, who died on New Year's Day 2005, two years after officially being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Who knows when the disease really began? Her illness made me feel so helpless that I began walking in the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk. Not long after that I discovered the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Challenge. Since I come from a long line of quilters (Mom and her six sisters), and had been quilting almost 30 years by then, it was a natural thing to do. I also had an aunt and uncle to succumb to this awful disease.
Alzheimer's Disease is indescribably painful and heartbreaking, and I want to do what tiny bit I can to help find a cure so that no one has to go through the pain of losing a loved one to this disease, ever again.
And because I so admire Ami Simms for launching this miraculous effort.
