The Masonic Village Piece Makers Quilt Group started with a gathering of four sewers with a love a quilting who met in one lady's cottage. This number grew constantly as word spread so the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA furnished a larger space to accommodate the group.
Since their main purpose is to share their love of quilting - the opening of their weekly meetings is a "Show & Tell" which often is the inspiration for members to share their techniques and stories with each other.
One member shared her discovery of the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative and as several members have or had spouses, friends or other family members who suffer(ed) with Alzheimer's and dementia, they enthusiastically decided this was a wonderful way to combine their love of quilting with the desire to raise funds to help research eradicate or ease the effects of this disease.
Several members of the Masonic Village Piece Makers Quilt Group have spouses, friends or other relatives who have or are currently suffering with Alzheimer's and agreed that this is an outstanding effort to help in some small way to try to find a cure for this terrible disease.
