The Priority: Alzheimer’s quilt booth at the International Quilt Festival in 2008 featured over 1000 small quilts to be sold. While visiting the booth guests were invited to wear 2” x 6” purple patches on which they had written the name of someone they knew with Alzheimer’s disease. They also wrote these names on the small purple patches which comprise the border on these quilts. During the festival our quilting luminaries offered their support by signing the center of this quilt. It is signed by 39 of these wonderfully supportive friends: Alex Anderson, John Anderson (Alex’s husband), Charlotte Warr Anderson, Sandy Bonsib, Karey Bresenhan, Karen Kay Buckley, Hollis Chatelain, Darlene C. Christopherson, Susan Cleveland, Melody Crust, Nancy Brenan Daniel, Carol Doak, Nancy Eha, Robbi Joy Eklow, Cynthia England, John Flynn, Laura Lee Fritz, Dilys A. Fronks, Gail Garber, Morna McEver Golletz, Sandra L. Hatch, Brenda Henning, Linda Jenkins, Kathy Kansier, Faye Labanaris, Libby Lehman, Dixie McBride, Linda McGehee, Philippa Naylor, Sue Nickels, Sharon Pederson, Nancy Prince, Jenny Raymond, Jackie Robinson, Ami Simms, Tricia Spitzmueller, Wendy Strumwasser, Ricky Tims, Virginia A. Walton, and Ami Simms (again) as she usually forgets to sign until the quilt is shipped to the new owner. Except this time. Twice. All black Pigma pens have been hidden. (Truly a collector's item, for more than one reason. Sorry. Second signature is not visible as I signed it after the quilt was photographed. Sorry again.)
To quilting faculty and friends who signed on to help the millions suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and to all whose names are on the border patches. May we all continue to work towards a cure.
