Statement: I make traditional quilts for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative to honor my dear friend Joanne L. Carr. I saw the strain this cruel disease had on her family as she devoted constant love and tender care to comfort her wonderful, funny, and kind husband, Bob. I hope these small quilts brighten the day of someone who has been touched by Alzheimer's disease.
Women have historically made quilts to support their family and community, whether in hard times of war or to celebrate joyful occasions. I admire Ami Simms and all of hardworking volunteers who make this project succeed as well as the scientists and doctors who use the grant money to continue their essential work to find an effective treatment.
