Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative Offers Research Grants

(Burton, Michigan--September 22, 2008) The Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI) is offering approximately five grants of $10,000 each to qualifying research organizations. Grant funds will be dispersed in December 2008. Applications must be received electronically by November 30, 2008 at Grants@AlzQuilts.org. Applicants seeking grants for more than one research project may submit multiple applications. Recipients must be public or private, domestic research laboratories, universities, medical centers, or hospitals conducting scientific research for the prevention, treatment, or cure of Alzheimer's disease. Applying organizations must be recognized as tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Research must be peer-reviewed. The Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative is a 501(C)(3) national, grassroots organization whose mission is to raise awareness and fund research. Alzheimer’s: Forgetting Piece by Piece (a nationally touring exhibit of quilts aboutAlzheimer's) and Priority: Alzheimer’s Quilts (ongoing auction and sale of small quilts) are two of its efforts. The AAQI has raised and $194,000 for Alzheimer’s research since January 2006. Ami Simms of Flint, Michigan is the founder and executive director of AAQI and curator of the exhibit.
