Elaine's Quilty Shop sponsors a "Gathering" group where quilters get together to learn special techniques and work on special projects.
In early 2006 the Gathering began work on a raffle quilt to raise money for Alzheimer's research, held at the annual Hadley, Michigan Harvest Festival and Quilt Show September 15-16, 2006. The quilt, called Circle of Life is a traditional design, brought to the groups attention by Fons & Porter's spring issue. Blocks were made and donated by members of the Gathering. Elaine Matznick, owner of Elaines Quilty Shop donated the sashing and borders. The Hadley Chamber of Commerce agreed to pay for the machine quilting.
Wilma Maurer, pictured here, was present when her ticket was drawn which made it exciting for makers and winner alike.
Says Elaine, "I am so proud that so few ladies can achieve so much. We are not a guild, we have no chair person or committee. Less than 15 women worked together and put on this quilt show every year. The quilt drawing as an addition this year."
Elaine's Quilty Shop raised $181 for Alzheimer's research.
