The Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative is a Michigan nonprofit corporation. We have not yet received our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS, therefore your donation is NOT tax deductible at this time. However, we expect to receive tax-exempt status some time in the early fall of 2008, and it will be retroactive to January 2, 2008. If and when we receive this status we will, at that time, send you a receipt showing that your donation was tax deductible.
There is a slight chance that we will not get this classification. (I don't run the IRS.) There is NO CHANCE that the profits of the AAQI will go anywhere but to fund Alzheimer's research.
If you're not interested in a tax deduction, select the amount you'd like to donate from the choices below and we'll start learning how our new credit card processing terminal works.
If you DO want a tax deduction, write a check. Make it out to Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. Put your email address on the memo line. Put a note in the envelope that says, "HOLD for tax deduction." We won't cash your check until the IRS says we can give you a tax deduction. (Then, we will! Your tax deduction will come by email.) If that determination doesn't come by December 1st, we'll mail the check back and you can tear it up and send the money to your second favorite charity and get a tax deduction from them before the end of the 2008 year. If you don't care about a tax deduction and want to just send a check to save us the credit card processing fees, the same address works. Just have the note say," CASH IT NOW!" (Put your email on the memo line so we can email you a receipt.)
Here's the small print: We will never send you anything by mail that you didn't ask for. No yearly begging letter, no "free" calendar with our name on it, and no return address labels with your name on them. We want to spend every cent you give us on our mission, which is raising awareness and funding research, not trying to get you to donate more. We will ask you to join our AAQI Update and annoy you electronically, but the nice thing about that is you can always stop the emails, or just delete them if you don't want to hurt our feelings. And, we're very selfish. We don't sell, swap, loan, or share your email addresses with anyone.
