Statement: I am making the promise because we need to move ahead on research. My Mom suffered dementia at the end of her life and there was nothing I could do to help her but offer love, which I am sure she felt almost to the end. I have lost one of my best friends to Alzheimer's and have 2 friend's care giving their husbands afflicted with Alzheimer's. My dearest friend has recently been diagnosed and is going throughdifferent stages. When we see each other the thing that gets through stronger than anything else is the warm hugs she gives several times. With all these patients surrounding me, making quilts and donating them is my only defense. It helps me to make quilts because I get to think of these special people as I sew. and have hope that the next generation will have a way of battling this horrible disease. The promise is something concrete that I can do to help.
