Designer: Original designMaterials/Techniques: I first made a hand drawn intentionally crooked flying geese template on paper, then paper pieced the fabric on to it for precision. I used cotton fabric and batting, and all the quilting was done in free motion using a domestic sewing machine.
Artist Statement: This quilt was made to be submitted along with quilts from my local guild. My grandmother has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's so this is very close to me. The title, "A Flight of Hope", describes not only the flying geese quilt block, but also the desire to fly away from the troubles caused by Alzheimer's. Around the center panel I quilted inspiring words, including the word "Hope." We have hope that one day we'll have a cure for Alzheimer's.
