Width: 8.25" Length: 10.75"
Designer: Pamela Perry, pamsclipart.com, used with written permission.Materials/Techniques: I hand embroidered the outline of the wave with an outline stitch first, then I chain-stitch embroidered over the top. The wave is done in variegated light blues and the palm tree leaves in variegated green, with brown in their trunks. I then shadow quilted around the design and used a split sleeve on top for hanging, with fast finish triangles at the bottom.
Artist Statement: I look at this design and imagine the tiny island as the brain. The Tsunami wave represents the stages of Alzheimer’s before it is actually diagnosed; you can see it coming but you can't do anything about it. Once it "hits" there is no turning back, everything in the brain is "washed away.”
