Eagan, MN USA
Width: 9" Length: 11"
Materials/Techniques: The purple roses were stamped with textile paint onto sparkle polyester organza and layered over white cotton fabric that was stamped in a polka dot pattern with metallic paint in green, gold, and red, creating a wonderful depth to the piece. The color in the purple fabric was discharged using the same rose stamp creating a subtle rose pattern in the background. The machine embroidered rose is done in metallic thread. The fabrics are layered over polyester batting and free-motion quilted with metallic and rayon threads highlighting the rose pattern. The quilt is further embellished with eyelet lace and couched with eyelash yarn and then bound and backed with cotton quilting fabric.
Artist Statement: This is my first project using fabrics I created with textile paints and discharge techniques. Combining the fabrics reminded me so much of my grandmother who fought a long battle and died of Alzheimer's. She always loved purple and this quilt brought back fond memories of her living room richly decorated with purple pillows, flowers and accessories. She would have loved this quilt. I hope this quilt will bring joy to someone else and help to find a cure for this heartbreaking disease.
Dedication: To Grandma Evelyn.
