Width: 11.5" Length: 8.75"
Materials/Techniques: Pieced background using cotton fabrics and 100% cotton batting. Touches of fabric paint on felted wool sunhat, leaves and flowers finished with bead centers. Fusible appliqué birds with hand-embroidered legs and French knot eyes. Fusible appliqué letters of "summer" finished with machine zigzag stitching using variegated thread. Hand-embroidered flower stems, nest and bee trail, machine quilted sun along with background, butterfly, sunglasses and bee buttons. Machine quilted signature in lower left corner.
Artist Statement: "Summer" is the second quilt in my Season Series following #8999 "Spring is in the Air". The atmosphere was a little calmer in spring with eggs in the nest, quiet spring showers and flowers just beginning to pop up, but everything is much more active now that summer is in full swing. The eggs have hatched and 3 little bluebirds are tentatively trying their wings. Flowers abound with the butterflies and bees flitting about, sipping their nectar. Oh, and that summer sun is so bright! "R" has donned a sunhat and the "M's" their sunglasses...ah, much better.
