Width: 9" Length: 9"
Materials/Techniques: All of the fabrics except the black print are Moda Marbles, mostly in jewel tones. Traditionally pieced with 3/8" stripes surrounding the center block and quilted with clear threads.
Artist Statement: Joseph's Coat is an old block named for a Bible story, a story I remembered from my childhood because of an illustrated book with the young Joseph in his striped coat of many colors. But I also recalled reading somewhere that it could have been "of many pieces", patchwork, perhaps. Research made it clear that translations had given the coat many descriptions in different editions of the Bible. "Ornate robe", ”a long robe with sleeves", "long colored coat", "striped coat" etc. I stick with the King James version and the coat of many colors, and I added stripes to make it more universal.
