Width: 9" Length: 9"
Materials/Techniques: Blue fabric was the base fabric. I glued ribbons and lace at an angle to cover the fabric. I remember many of the ribbons from clothes in pictures! I backed the quilt in a fabric from Mom's stash. The batting was also from her stash. I sewed the ribbons together with a small zigzag, which quilted the piece as well.
Artist Statement: I grew up on a farm in North Dakota with 8 brothers and sisters. My mom made all of our clothes and always tried to make them a little different from each other. There were five girls and three of us were one year apart. Adding ribbon or lace made it our own. Mom studied the JCPenny catalog and could copy any dress or shirt so we always felt we were in fashion. I never realized we were poor. Mom has had Alzheimer's for over 8 years. She gave us so much, and always tried so hard to make us feel good about ourselves. I inherited all of her stash including her ribbons and lace. She asked me to complete the great grandbaby quilts she had started and to continue making them using her stash and supplies. It is an honor to do this for her.
Dedication: Dedicated to Mom, my best friend.
This quilt has a Hanging Ring.
This quilt earned $35.00 for the AAQI.
