Materials/Techniques: The background is hand-quilted, and the lion's mane has been decorated with machine embroidery. I added a spark in each eye, too.

Artist Statement: I liked this lion with the old eyes. I decided to give him a background of African-themed fabric, with golds, browns and blacks that match his coloration. I want to thank the people who gave me material for this quilt -- Opal Vega of Tennessee, Carol Vance of Indiana, and Lavelle Notz of South Dakota -- and Janet Fisher of Maryland, who sent me the buttons.
