Materials/Techniques: The silhouette of a bugler was machine-appliquéd to a cotton fabric machine-appliquéd with a star design. The poem was printed on an ink-jet printer and transferred to cloth. I am grateful to Sylvia Rosenshine of Virginia, J. Cook of Texas, and Carol Vance of Indiana for giving me fabric to use in making this quilt.
Artist Statement: I first heard these verses when they were read at a memorial service that was part of a "Doctor Who" episode. It was written by Lawrence Binyon in 1914 and is widely used in memorial services around the world. I decided to "bring it home" a little by using the USA fabric and the silhouette of a soldier who looks like a GI playing "Taps."
