Vancouver, WA USA
Width: 8.5" Length: 11"
Designer: Linda Causee, from 24 Flower Quilt Blocks, page 15, published by American School of Needlework, ©2005, used with written permission.
Materials/Techniques: Paper pieced with cotton fabric, machine appliquéd butterfly, stitched in the ditch in some areas, and echo stitched in others.
Artist Statement: My friend Madelon had called to tell me she was moving back to Vancouver but she was having a hard time remembering who she was talking to and kept confusing me with someone named Annette. It was then that I realized my dear friend was now losing her memory. My strong, rock of a friend who had stood the death watch with me when my husband lay dying now could no longer remember who she was talking to at times. I decided then that I would make a donation quilt in her honor. Since it was now August, I picked the August flower, the gladiola. It's not her birthday flower, but she likes pink and green, so the glad in my quilt is pink and background is green.
Dedication: Dedicated to my friend Madelon who is leaving me behind, piece, by piece.
This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.
