Width: 8.5" Length: 11"
Materials/Techniques: Working quickly, I took snippets of hand-dyed fabric and layered them with ribbons and threads. Then I covered them all with tulle and machine quilted them down with invisible thread. Last I added more threads and beads to get a multi-layered look. The quilt is one of several I did monthly as an experiment in techniques.
Artist Statement: I have been experimenting with materials and techniques, trying to break free of the traditional quilting that I have done in the past. Small pieces provide an excellent opportunity to do this.
Dedication: Due to a frightening experience in her childhood, my mother was always terrified of fire. Late in her life she developed Alzheimer's disease and very quickly lost her ability to speak to any of us. One day a fire began in the basement of her home. She was near the door to the basement, and my father was asleep down the hall. The fire caused her to shout out Daddy, come quickly! There is a fire! It was put out quickly, and as bad as a fire is, it gave her back to us in that short moment. This quilt reminds me of fire and that short story.
This quilt has a Split Sleeve.
