Width: 8.75" Length: 9"
Materials/Techniques: Hand stitched antique nine patch block, appliqué with the original quilting preserved, contemporary backing and binding, cotton fabrics.
Artist Statement: This piece comes from my antique block collection. It is all hand sewn. The actual backing was so frail from age that I felt that I needed a sturdy piece of cloth for preservation. The binding is contemporary as it was impossible to duplicate the blue in the nine patches. This unfruitful search for an identical blue leads me to think that this cloth was made by a process we no longer use, and is probably an old piece.
