Artist Statement: The news has been filled with our most recent Metal of Honor recipients when I first thought about making this quilt. Then about a month ago the evening news had a story of a soldier killed in a helicopter crash in Vietnam 40 years ago. His remains were being returned to his home in St. Louis, MO. I just wanted to say thank you to all the men and women who have protected and are still protecting our great nation. I have enjoyed the great freedom others have given to me.
