Materials/Techniques: All cotton materials including batting except nylon invisible thread for appliqué and quilting top threads. Machine pieced and quilted. Appliques hand cut, embroidery embellishment and binding carefully stitched by hand.

Artist Statement: My friend recently succumbed to the ravages of this disease and this little quilt reflects how I think of her - that even though the garden of her mind became fenced in, the gate swung open frequently to reveal the beautiful flowers of memories still planted there. And, therefore, the legend at the bottom says "A garden gate is never truly closed."
