The flower is appliquéd to unbleached muslin, batting is 100% cotton and the back is current vintage unbleached muslin. Piece is hand quilted in a half-diagonal pattern. Binding is made of a current fabric in coordinating colors.
Artist Statement: I made this quilt out of an orphan block, thinking about my Dad. He died at the age of 88, but it was 23 years ago. He never had a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s but I am pretty sure he suffered from it. It was heartbreaking to watch him becoming more and more childlike and my Mom take care of him as she did me when I was a child. One day, no longer able to recognize her as his wife, he beat my Mom terribly. Faced with no other alternative, Mom admitted him to a nursing home where he died within a few months.
Dedication: I would dedicate this to my Dad and to my Mom. To my Dad because he was robbed of a happy end to his time on earth and to my Mom because of her never-ending devotion to my Dad and to the heart wrenching decisions she had to find the courage to make.
This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.
This quilt earned $36.70 for the AAQI.
