7751 - Memory

Prescott, AZ   USA

Width: 8.5"   Length: 11"

Materials/Techniques: The background is a computer manipulated photograph of a gate at San Xavier Mission located south of Tucson. The photograph is rotated 90 degrees to the left from the original shot. The words are computer printed on a separate, duplicate manipulated photograph and then finished like "inchies" so that they are three-dimensional.

Artist Statement: "When the person you love becomes a Memory, that Memory becomes a Treasure." I feel that this is a beautiful sentiment, and that the people we love become Memories not only when they die, but when their personalities "die" and they become someone other than the person we have known and loved. We love them still, but the memory of who they used to be becomes a treasure indeed. That treasured memory is triggered by a scent, a piece of clothing, a place, a photograph, something someone says, even something you say without thinking. Every time that happens, the person we loved continues to live on in our memories.
