Width: 10.75" Length: 8.25"
Materials/Techniques: Cotton quilting fabrics, machine pieced, crumb piecing with strip insertions, machine quilted.
Artist Statement: My mother was a wanderer. As the Alzheimer's grew stronger, she could get lost between her front door and the mailbox, let alone when she tried to walk from her house to my sister's, four blocks away. Even after she was moved to assisted living, the staff found her outdoors without her coat, with no idea how to get back into the building (never a good idea, but especially bad during a Michigan winter). Mom was moved again to the "lock-down" wing. We take so much for granted every day . . . and it is so hard to watch a loved one's everyday freedoms being stripped away, leaving only crumbs of who they once were.
Dedication: In honor and memory of my mother and her Alzheimer's journey (Lura Ash Walton, 1916-2005).
