7396 – Love Blossoms Like a Rose

Marcy Jo Hess
Schenectady, NY   USA

Width: 8.875"   Length: 8.875"

Materials/Techniques: Cotton fabric and thread, glass beads. All hand work; appliqué and stitch in the ditch; shadow quilting in green and red thread following the white on white print fabric. Once I have an idea I let the quilt "speak" and tell me what it wants to become.

Artist Statement: This quilt meets three Q.U.I.L.T.S. of Schenectady challenges for 2010-2011. First, “go green" by using leftovers from other projects, second, "outside the box" or outside of your personal quilting comfort zone by trying something new which for me was shadow quilting, and third, "AAQI" with the 9" X12" max size requirement. All participating guild members were encouraged to incorporate all 3 challenges into a Priority Quilt as the challenges lent themselves to this.

Dedication: For my father-in-law, DJ Hess, who inspired so many students at Daniel Hand High in Madison, CT. He never met a person who did not soon become a friend. When I met DJ it was kismet, as it was with all who knew him. Dad, I miss you your monkey face.

This quilt has a Traditional Sleeve.

This quilt earned $40 for the AAQI.
