Width: 11.5" Length: 8.5"
Designer: The zebra is a half sized rendition of Sara Nephew’s block in her book Patchwork Zoo. Used with written permission by Alicia’s Attic who holds the rights to this work.
Materials/Techniques: Mostly fused, free hand cut pieces including the black stripes on the pieced zebra. The binding is cut from a striped piece of fabric.
Artist Statement: The title of the quilt is an old joke about space people meeting up with an animal or thing and evidently assuming they are the inhabitants of this planet. The Block A Month challenge of a space alien requirement set the theme of the quilt. The colors, black and white and another color are the zebra, the little green men and the landscape. The tree leaves, the captain’s scarf, and the flag are folded, finishing up the challenge.
Dedication: To the memory of my father who read “space operas” long before Science Fiction made them respectable.
This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.
This quilt earned $68.81 for the AAQI.
