Materials/Techniques: Cottons, blends; foundation/paper pieced.
Artist Statement: Psychedelic Shadows II -- AKA: What you do when you can’t find the right color fabric for a shadow. Just for fun and to challenge myself, I drew foundation pieced patterns for classic blocks casting a shadow. I did patterns for a shadowed ‘King’s Crown’; ‘Shoo Fly’; and ‘Turnstile’. This is the King’s Crown. They were intended to be a pretty print block casting a conventional shadow but I failed to find fabric for such a shadow. It was a case of, “What would happen if I …?”
Dedication: To Martha Wolfersberger (MT), a precise quilt maker who has earned almost $5,000 for research and she didn’t start making AAQI quilts until 2009. Her mastery of working in miniature is amazing. She could reduce a shadowed Shoo Fly to two inches in size and produce a near-perfect block.
This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.
This quilt earned $45 for the AAQI.
