Artist Statement: When I was younger, I loved watching Bob Ross' "The Joy of Painting" with my dad as he sat on the coffee table folding his laundry. Last winter, our trip to visit relatives in California upset his routine and made his confusion all the more apparent. There was one wonderful half an hour when I saw that Bob Ross was on TV, and we watched it together. In that moment, it was as if nothing was wrong and no time had passed. I loved listening to Bob Ross’ quiet commentary as he painted “happy trees” and proclaimed that he would put another little tree in because “everybody needs a friend, even a tree.”
