6289 - Sugar Mountain

6289 - Sugar Mountain

Hillsboro, NH    USA

Width: 8.5"   Length: 11"

Materials/Techniques: Cotton, Angelina fibers, Scrapbook embellishments, Cotton batting, Fusible, web rayon decorative threads. Fused background and thread painted to highlight features of background. I used Angelina to represent the sugar on the mountain and the glued "candy" to represent childhood.

Artist's Statement: This was made to show the rock song by Neil Young, Sugar Mountain. The song is about becoming an adult where "you can't be 20 on Sugar Mountain even though you think you are leaving there too soon" you can never go back once you leave childhood. It is a favorite song of mine.

Dedication: My mother who is passed now had dementia and I know what it was like to see her slip into her own thoughts. I watched her slowly become not my mom who I liked to talk to but someone I could not hold a meaningful conversation with anymore. I miss her.
