6037 - Subtle Circles ($80)

6037 - Subtle Circles ($80)
Martha Wolfersberger
Frenchtown, MT    USA

Width: 8.75"   Length: 11.5"

Materials/Techniques: Machine pieced and quilted. Made from Civil War era reproduction cotton fabrics and cotton threads, poly/cotton batting.

Artist's Statement: This is my fourth "Winding Ways" quilt, the second mini one. When I first saw Nancy Elliott MacDonald demonstrate her technique for piecing the blocks I thought they looked very cool but not like anything I could ever do. After I watched a rerun I bought her book and a set of templates for making 9" blocks. That turned out to be not so difficult so I made another. Then eventually found smaller templates for smaller blocks. The name "Subtle Circles" circles is based on the fact that in this little “Winding Ways” quilt the circles are not as noticeable as in a larger quilt with more circles and also because the fabrics used are more subtle than bright.

Dedication: To Nancy Elliot MacDonald and all of the other quilt teachers who show the rest of us how to maximize our pleasure while playing with fabrics.

This quilt is displayed with Fast Finish Triangles.

This quilt earned $80 for the AAQI.
