Susan Cranshaw has given me permission to use her pattern "Horned Toad". I finished the quilt while Susan was in town for our quilt show and her permission is written on the back of the quilt. So it has her autograph on it.
I used Susan Cranshaw's instructions to do raw edge applique and trapunto on the horned toad made of batiks. It is embellished with antique buttons and beads. It is machine quilted with cotton and monofillament thread.Artist's Statement:
When I was growing up in West Texas during the 1950s we saw horny toads everytime we went outside to play.
We thought it was a lot of fun to see if we could catch them, play with them for a while, and then let them go. I haven't seen one in many years. Horned toads are the official reptile of Texas.
Vicki Craig Dedication:
To the people looking for a cure for Alzheimer's. Wouldn't it be great if Alzheimer's was just something you heard about in history class and it had just disappeared off the face of the earth?
