4982 - Frustration and Anxiety ($50)

Sonia M. Callahan
Piedmont, CA USAWidth: 9"
Length: 12"
Materials/Techniques: Photo transfer, sketching, drawing, machine quilting
and commercial fabric.
Artist's Statement: Anxiety is an emotion that we have all experienced and the Alzheimer’s patient is no exception, but anxiety may be expressed in non- typical form. While the quilt depicts a classical example of "tearing her hair out", Alzheimer’s patients may show anxiety by perseverating on an idea, repeating an action, such as pacing, or using mannerisms that indicate emotional turmoil. Recognizing that anxiety is at the base for this behavior can help caregiver and family in their understanding.
Sonia M. Callahan Dedication: To Ed who challenged his caregivers every day with mannerisms he couldn't control.
