Width: 8.5" Length: 10.75"
Materials/Techniques: The center block, Texas Cactus Basket is pieced without foundations and the top is a familiar Seminole runner. The side cactus were cut freehand and fused in place.
Artist's Statement: While researching basket blocks (there are scads of variations) I came across this one. It seemed to need a little room to grow, so it is a solitary block but accompanied by other cacti and also the “bloom” across the top border.

Dedication: To the gardeners who know the carefree ways of the cactus plants and their methods of protecting themselves from harm with their prickly thorns.
