Cotton fabrics, block pieced without foundations. The header design is fused and quilted.Artist's Statement:
The block I have used is based on the Goose in a Pond block from the late 1890's, but it has many other names such as Missouri Puzzle and Young Man's Fancy and it has been modified and altered over the years as I have done once again in this quilt. There is a quilt made in 1910 named Young Man's Fancy, so it has been around a while. Alfred Lord Tennyson is quoted: "In the spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love" and the young man here, seems to have turned his love to at least four ladies. Couldn't the silly goose see they are getting together and probably talking about him; there are signs plainly pointing to their meeting. And now they are all greeting him at the church! What a mess our young man has gotten himself into.
To the young at heart.
