Cotton fabrics with the chessmen fused and the chess board and borders pieced.Artist's Statement:
Many years ago our children asked us how to play chess. We didn't know, but we all read the instructions and rules and figured out how it was played. The kids always beat us though. Guess we were too busy figuring out how to keep them fed and clothed to learn the game. But now it seems it would have been beneficial what with the urging we hear and read to keep our minds active. Could this be a preventive measure for Alzheimer's? Maybe, but while it might be much better to find a cure by donating quilts to AAQI, playing chess would be fun too.
