St. Charles, IL USAWidth:
Alexander Henry fabric: “Kotobuki”, cotton fabric, piping covered with metallic fabric, cotton thread; machine quilted.Artist's Statement:
The Japanese kanji is the symbol for “ai,” which means “love.” “I love you” is one of the essential things to say to a loved one, especially one who is dying. The other essentials include: “Please forgive me;” “I forgive you;” “Thank you;” “I will always remember you;” and “Good-bye.” When I said these to my mom for the last time, as sort of a ceremony, I added, because we’re Christian, “God bless you,” and “I’ll see you later.” After I told her, “I love you,” her very last words to me were, “I love you, too.” What a gift!
Barb Vlack Dedication:
To my mom, who died from complications from Alzheimer’s on August 15, 2008. “I’ll see you later.”
