Saint Charles, IL USAWidth: 9"
Length: 12"
Materials/Techniques: Wool yarn; cotton background and backing, rickrack, pewter charm, bamboo sandwich picks. Knitting, machine appliqué, machine embroidered, machine quilted.
Artist's Statement: My mother taught me to knit when I was a child. I knit my first sweater when I was in junior high. It has been a great hobby that has stayed with me for many years. Even when my mother forgot many things about her life, due to Alzheimer’s, she remembered how to knit. I remember Mom’s stories about her blind grandmother knitting mittens for her family. I think of her, though I never knew her, when I try to knit without looking.
Barb VlackDedication: To those who knit as they sit and wait.
