4360 - Static on the Line

4360 - Static on the Line
Judy Buchanan
Austin, TX    USA

Width: 8.75"   Length: 10.75"

Materials/Techniques: Cottons, Pellon fusible fleece. Machine pieced with applied raw edge “static”. Machine quilted.

Artist's Statement: This piece refers to the early telephone systems that would frequently have “static on the line”. The conversations were sometimes just bits and pieces between the static. Somehow this seems to me to be the way the brain works after Alzheimer’s. The six vertical seams of the quilt all have “static” on them.

Dedication: To my Mother’s sister and my Mother’s best boyfriend both of them in the nursing home she was in – both of them with Alzheimer’s. And to my husband’s uncle who died of the disease.

This quilt is displayed with Fast Finish Triangles.

This quilt earned $39.84 for the AAQI.
