Rose & Ed Kirwan
Mt. Carroll, IL USAWidth: 8"
Length: 10"
Materials/Techniques: The gladiolus was first cut from pieces of cotton fabric and fused together on a telfon sheet. My husband then used Shiva Paint Sticks, which are oil paints in stick form, to give depth and shading to the flower. Once he was done, I fused the flower to heavyweight Pellon and did some thread painting and "quilting." The edges are finished with a multi-tonal zigzag stitch. I chose to make our project 8x10 so that it would fit a standard photo frame.
Artist's Statement: The gladiolus is a symbol of strength and integrity. How fitting that it is also such a beautiful flower.
Dedication: In hope that soon Alzheimer's will no longer affect mankind.
