3674 - South of the Border ($44.84)

Materials/Techniques: A medallion quilt with the flowers of the center panel featuring a slight trapunto quilting is made from scraps of a fabric that has been in my scrap collection for a long time. It was undoubtedly donated by someone who hoped I could use it. It was originally probably a border print, with a strip of bouquets trimmed with the blue and red flower edging along their length. The outer print was in a fair sized width, so it may have been the real yardage of the piece. Small amounts of the plain fabric remained and it has a selvage on it, so maybe it was the end of the border.
Artist's Statement: My assumption that the fabric was a border print coupled with the bright flowers in a design that reminded me of countries near the equator, is the basis for the name of this quilt.
Dedication: To the donor of the fabric, whomever, it may be.
