Julie Sefton
Bartlett, TN USAWidth: 8.75"
Length: 11.25"
Designer: Original design featuring a Heather French rose. Used with written permission.
Materials/Techniques: Hand quilting, hand appliqué ~ No. 12 in my series of moodling quilts.
Artist's Statement: Doing ~ simply for the sake of doing ~ no right or wrong, just the pure joy of stitching... For those of you who don't know about moodling, in the 1930’s, author Brenda Ueland wrote a book titled "If You Want to Write: A book about Art, Independence & Spirit.” I found her book in the craft shop at the John C. Campbell Folk School & I copied this phrase from it into one of my journals: “so you see, imagination needs moodling – long inefficient, happy idling, dawdling and puttering”… I added the soft edge hand-stitched appliqué leaves and rose atop the moodled background ~ then embellished the appliqué with raindrops (swavorski crystals).
Julie Sefton Dedication: My mother loved her roses and she loved The Sound of Music... until Alzheimer's robbed her of the ability to enjoy the things she cared about. This is my 50th PQ ~ created with love in honor and memory of Lura Walton (1916-2005).
