Alachua, FL USAWidth:
Altered photograph by Stephanie Costa, acrylics; decorative machine stitching, hand beading. An original poem on back of quilt reads:
I fished from the sea of adventure,
my net ripping from abundant experience.
I fished from the communal lake,
feeding all with my catch of knowledge.
I fished out of the stream of Remembrance,
catch and releasing silvery scaled moments.
Sitting on the bank of Alzheimer's Creek,
no pole or net in hand,
I am —
unable to feed my soul.
Memories are like fish caught from the stream of time. Sometimes our catch is so large we cannot remember every event, and sometimes we are left with an empty net. I believe each communication with an Alzheimer's patient is worthy, even if their thoughts become the fish that got away.
