Materials/Techniques: I dumped several leftover dyes all over a large piece of muslin prepared for dyeing. The result was somewhat shocking and I put it away because I thought it was too garish. When I folded it into sections, I realized I had fabric that had reflected some recent sunsets that gilded the trees in the woods near my home. The machine-embroidered trees are from patterns by Pinnacle Designs, which I obtained through Embroidery Designs.com. The web site states that items made with these designs may be sold commercially with limitation. I used the brown print binding to suggest a view through a window.
Artist Statement: I live in a wooded area and find the explosion of color in a sunset fascinating. It isn't just the sky, it's the trees, grass and shrubbery that reflect all that color. This isn't the best rendition of nature's bounty, but it was fun to try to create a sense of the beauty that surrounds me.
Dedication: To Dorothy Zelch.
