Mary Kate Karr-Petras
Broomfield, CO USA
Width: 11" Length: 8.5"
Materials/Techniques: Cotton fabric and batting, hand quilted with #8 perle cotton threads and hand quilting thread.
Artist Statement: My paternal grandfather, Ken Karr, died in 1985 of an Alzheimer’s-like condition. Because he and my grandmother had retired to Florida and my parents had moved to California, I only remember a handful of visits with him while growing up before he became very ill. One thing I do remember is his blue fishing hat, which probably never went on any fishing trips but went to the country club golf course many times. Before he'd leave the house to go somewhere, he'd grab his hat and say, "Come on, dearie, let's go for a drive.” To this day, his children and grandchildren are a little less impatient when driving behind a slow car if we see that the driver has his "dearie" on.
Dedication: For Big Daddy.
This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.
This earned $41.29 for AAQI.
