Laura Keyes Perry
Roanoke, VA USA
Width: 11.5" Length: 9"
Materials/Techniques: Cotton fabrics, machine quilted, given to me by Marlene Lodermeier, and a fabric cow which was appliquéd, donated by Opal Vega. Decorative buttons donated by Dorothy Costello sewn on by hand. Fabric for fast-finish triangles donated by War and Peace Quilters.
Artist Statement: I can tell you what cows think -- "Moo.” (I didn't say I could translate it. I am not a TARDIS!) I had been reading about researchers who say that we cannot think about a thing unless we have a word for it, and reflecting that this severely limits what animals can think. (Personally, I know plenty of people who think in pictures, not words, and I expect animals can, too.) But I thought it would be funny if the researchers found out what a cow was thinking ("Moo") and then could not understand it because it was in a foreign language!
