Width: 8.25" Length: 10.5"
Materials/Techniques: I hand dyed muslin fabrics using plastic bags and jelly jars several years ago. It was so much work that I hesitated to cut it up for years. I've tried a number of methods of piecing 8 point stars before settling on this method of using templates to cut out the pieces. I used rulers and pencils to draw my sewing lines, which resulted in the most accurate sewn stars I have yet achieved. I had some commercial embroidered appliqués that I added for a little extra interest.
Artist Statement: I love to play with color. I am fascinated by the effects that can be achieved with the random patterns that occur with hand-dyed fabrics of various types. I also use old "found" items that are hiding in drawers of cabinets.
Dedication: To Rosemary Strothkamp Benz.
