Longview, WA USA
Width: 11.5" Length: 8.25"
Materials/Techniques: I started with white PFD cloth and drew the Bird of Paradise on it with pencil. I colored it with Inktense pencils and water. There is extra batting under the flower and then cut away. Then I put it on another piece of batting. I did the dragonfly separately then appliqued it on. The background is heavily free motion quilted to make the flower stand out. It is thread signed.
Artist Statement: I have a Bird Of Paradise plant when I am in California. It never has bloomed. I just look at other people's plants and take photos or draw from theirs. When I am at home in Washington I have a water feature in my yard and the dragonflies come all day long on those long summer days. I think they like the mist and then they sit on the highest leaf of the Canna plant. Many things are a mystery to me but this mysterious thing I can accept. Others I am still working on.
Dedication: To my mother who had Alzheimer's and to my friends Ele' and Barbara. They have been great caregivers.
