Width: 9" Length: 11.75"
Materials/Techniques: Pre-printed cotton motifs of hearts, stars and girl on white fabric. I used color pencils on the girls hair, face, skin, blouse and skirt. She is done in a style based on Nina Paleys “Trapplique”, hand appliquéd and quilted. I left a cut edge around the stars and hearts sort of like a self-fringe. The banner at the bottom is rough-cut appliqué and the background is machine quilted. I used part of an old cotton blanket as the batting.
Artist Statement: Born on the 4th of July, I took this way to share my patriotic spirit. I made the Dream Spinners vest and had these pieces left over. Someday the cure will be a reality not just a dream.
